A momentum die is chosen by the referee, and each combatant chooses which half of the die they wish to use, high or low.&lt;br /&gt;

The combatants then start with an initial clash, where both combatants secretly choose an action. As no one has a momentum advantage yet, both combatants can choose Offence or Defence actions. The combatants then reveal their actions, and the momentum advantage is awarded as follows:&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;ul&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;If one combatant chooses an action with the Offence trait, and one combatant chooses and action with the Defense trait, the combatant that choose the Offence action is awarded the momentum advantage&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;If the traits are the same, the action with lower stamina interrupts the other, taking the momentum advantage. If the stamina is also the same, flip a coin. The player who picked ‘high’ on the momentum die wins on heads, and the other player wins on tails.&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/ul&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Whichever combatant is awarded the momentum advantage sets the momentum die to the first number on their half of the die. For example, on a d8, the combatant that chose ‘low’ on the momentum die would set the die to 4, and the combatant that chose ‘high’ would set the die to 5. The combatant with the momentum advantage is now on the offensive, and can only use actions with the Offence trait. The other combatant is on the defensive, and can only use actions with the Defence trait.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;h3&amp;gt;Step 4: Resolve Initial Actions&amp;lt;/h3&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
The combatants now resolve the effects of their actions, such as using stamina, but ignore any momentum gain or loss from their actions.&lt;br /&gt;

Now that the initial clash is resolved, combat can continue as normal. The combatant that is on the offensive can continue their combo. When a combo is over, the momentum is checked. A combatant can choose to end their own combo at any time. Whichever combatant has the momentum advantage is now on the offence, and the other combatant is now on the defence.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;lt;h2&amp;gt;Combo&amp;lt;/h2&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
A combo is one or more Offensive moves used in a row, without having to check the momentum advantage.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;h2&amp;gt;Traits&amp;lt;/h2&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
All actions have one or more traits. A trait is a keyword that conveys information about how an action interacts with other rules elements or traits.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;h2&amp;gt;Stamina&amp;lt;/h2&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Every combatant has a stamina die, which is used to determine both their initial stamina in a combat, as well as to keep track of their current stamina as it increases and falls throughout a combat. Each character’s Stamina die will vary, however it will always be one (or more) polyhedral die. Stamina can be increased and reduced by you or your opponent’s actions and special abilities. If you use an action that would reduce your stamina to less than 1, your combo ends, you must check momentum again, and you take damage equal to the amount of negative stamina you would be taken to. Additionally, your next actions must be ‘Rest’ until you have at least 1 stamina again.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;h2&amp;gt;Health&amp;lt;/h2&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Every combatant has a number of hit points (HP) that they must keep track of. Player characters start with 10HP. Actions can deal damage to you to reduce your HP, or heal yourself to increase your HP (up to your max HP).&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;h2&amp;gt;Momentum&amp;lt;/h2&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Momentum keeps track of who has taken the advantage in combat. Momentum is tracked using one polyhedral die. Any polyhedral die can be used. Each combatant then chooses one half of the die to be theirs. Any time a player is in their ‘half’ of the die, they have the momentum advantage, and can take the offensive in a combat. &lt;br /&gt;

&amp;lt;i&amp;gt;Example: On a d8, player A chooses high numbers, so 5-8, and player B chooses low numbers, so 1-4. Whenever player A would gain momentum, through actions or special abilities, they would increase the number on the die. Conversely, whenever player B would gain momentum, they would decrease the number on the die. Whenever you would spend a point of stamina, you can instead choose to spend 2 health&lt;br /&gt;
Don’t even try&lt;br /&gt;
Whenever your opponent uses an action with the Momentum X trait, deal X damage&lt;br /&gt;

You can use one extra stamina to add one of the following traits to any action that does not already have the chosen trait; Opener, Discombobulate 1, Momentum 1&lt;br /&gt;

Can only be used after an opener in the current combo.&lt;br /&gt;
Cost X&lt;br /&gt;
lose X stamina&lt;br /&gt;
Damage X&lt;br /&gt;
Deal X damage to the opponent’s health.&lt;br /&gt;
Defence&lt;br /&gt;
Can only be used by the combatant on the defensive, or by either combatant in the Initial clash&lt;br /&gt;
Discombobulate X&lt;br /&gt;
Your opponent's next action costs X more stamina.&lt;br /&gt;
Ditto&lt;br /&gt;
In addition to the action’s listed traits, it gains all the traits of another action that you can use, as if you had used that action. That action can be chosen after actions are revealed.&lt;br /&gt;
Dodge&lt;br /&gt;
If the cost of your action is less than the cost of your opponents, the move has no effect.&lt;br /&gt;
Fall Back X&lt;br /&gt;
Lose X momentum&lt;br /&gt;
Finisher&lt;br /&gt;
As the ‘combo’ trait, but in addition the combo must end after this action.&lt;br /&gt;
Guard Break&lt;br /&gt;
Ignore the ‘Block X’ trait of your opponent’s action&lt;br /&gt;
Halting X&lt;br /&gt;
Reduce your opponent's momentum gain from their action by X.&lt;br /&gt;
Heal X&lt;br /&gt;
Recover X damage to your health.&lt;br /&gt;
Momentum X&lt;br /&gt;
Gain X momentum&lt;br /&gt;
Offence&lt;br /&gt;
Can only be used by the combatant on the offensive, or by either combatant in the Initial Clash.&lt;br /&gt;
Opener&lt;br /&gt;
Only actions with this trait can be used to start a combo.&lt;br /&gt;
Opportunity X&lt;br /&gt;
Increase your next actions momentum by X, and reduce its stamina cost by X.&lt;br /&gt;
Parry&lt;br /&gt;
Spend any number of your remaining stamina (minimum 0), if this is greater than the base stamina cost of your opponent’s attack, they must restart their combo (ie choose a starter action), but momentum is not checked.&lt;br /&gt;
Recover X&lt;br /&gt;
Gain X stamina&lt;br /&gt;
Reversal X&lt;br /&gt;
If X is an equal or higher number than the amount of stamina your opponent's action used, you take the offensive, even if you do not have the momentum advantage.&lt;br /&gt;
Rush&lt;br /&gt;
If you use this action again immediately after using it, the action gains Momentum 1 and Damage 1 (this stacks with other instances of momentum X and damage X)&lt;br /&gt;
Tiring X&lt;br /&gt;
